It’s the last half day of work and school for Rex, London, Maddie, and me… and when they get off the bus around one o’clock today, our family will head out to Lambertville, NJ (and maybe cross the bridge to Newhope, PA) for some last minute Christmas shopping and an early dinner at Hamilton’s Grill Room.

We’ve had our annual holiday visit to Lambertville on the calendar several times since Thanksgiving weekend, but each time, the weather did not cooperate.  Our family has spent several relaxing weekends snowed in by the fire, but now we’re ready for a little spontaneous shopping and good cheer.  We’ll visit a few of our favorite stores, like the Blue Raccoon, and then Maddie and London are dreaming of the rack of lamb!

Blue Raccoon Annual Holiday Open House Tomorrow Night (Wednesday, November 19th) from 5 to 7pm in Lambertville, NJ

I was just flipping through my mail and found a postcard from one of our favorite shops – the Blue Raccoon in Lambertville, New Jersey — inviting our family to their annual open house from 5 to 7pm tomorrow night, Wednesday, November 19th.  Blue Raccoon’s Holiday Open House gives early bird holiday shoppers an opportunity to see their ornaments and best finds of the season before anyone else.  One of our family’s holiday traditions for the past five years has been for London and Maddie to each pick out a special ornament from the Blue Raccoon’s special collection.  One year London chose a “Cake Lady,” while Maddie usually picks an animal, from birds to reindeer to dogs.

From their famous paperwhite bulbs, colorful clocks, signature beeswax candles (you’ll usually find a pair on our dining room table), and pillos that popwith character to a wide selection of holiday gifts at every price point, there’s always more in store at the Blue Raccoon.  The award winning home furnishings and lifestyle store opened in 1993. Their showroom features a wide selection of upholstery styles and fabrics as part of the store’s made-to-order upholstery selection; the latest furniture designs from the Mitchell Gold Company and an eye-catching assortment of home furnishings, rugs, lighting, accessories and beautiful accent pieces. As “hands-on” owners who personally select the products for the store, Nicholas Bewsey and Nelson Zayas maintain their passion for retailing and believe it’s important to inspire customers and provide an extraordinary and satisfying shopping experience everyday. From the soft and inviting look of cozy slip covered sofas to the feel-good softness of their leather club chairs, Blue Raccoon Home Furnishings is the result of more than 13 years of retail experience and it reflects the store’s mission: to create an environment where personal attention and exemplary service get top billing, and both the customers and the furniture are treated like stars.

Holiday Open House Bonus:  Most stores in Lambertville will be open late on Wednesday evening, November 19th.  And be sure to make a reservation at Hamilton’s Grill Room when you’re done with your shopping for a spcial Blue Raccoon prix fixe dinner — this night only for $25 per person.  Call Hamilton’s Grill Room at (609) 397-4343 for reservations.  Rex, London, Maddie and I had our post-holiday-shopping dinner there last year and it was just perfect.

We won’t be able to make it to the Blue Raccoon Holiday Open House, but we will be sure to drop in to the Blue Raccoon one Sunday in December when London, Maddie, Rex and I make our annual Christmas shopping trip to Lambertville, NJ and Newhope, Pennsylvania.  Maddie adores Dottie and Dash, Blue Raccoon’s beloved English bulldog mascots, who undoubtedly claim to be the real reason for Blue Raccoon’s attention and success.

Blue Raccoon, 6 Coryell Street, Lambertville, NJ.  Next to Hamilton’s Grill Room.  Phone:  (609) 397-5500.  Open Daily.

As we begin our holiday shopping in the Fall, Rex and the girls and I always make a trip to Lambertville, New Jersey.  Just in time, the latest issue of New Jersey Life magazine features an article all about Lambertville, including restaurants and shopping.  Instead of stealing it from Rex’s doctor’s office, this time I picked it up at Gary’s Wine in Bernardsville, NJ, when the cover caught my eye.
